The Richmond Public Library Foundation has launched a project aimed at bringing greater opportunity to city residents: the purchase of a book van to meet needs that our current bookmobile cannot.
Thousands of residents—in schools, senior centers, and homes for people with special needs—are on waiting lists for bookmobile visits. But because of the bookmobile's large size and full schedule, residents' needs go unmet.
To answer those needs, the RPLF will raise $100,000 for the book van from businesses, community organizations, and, most importantly, from library lovers like you.
An early outpouring of support has already taken us a third of the way to our $100,000 goal!
Meet our Campaign Cabinet
More than 100
elected officials,
city staff, and business and community leaders have
signed-on to this valuable campaign—please join them by making
a generous gift today.
Double the impact of your gift!
Thanks to the generosity of a local donor, all gifts will be
matched one-to-one up to $10,000. For example, if you give
$100, the Foundation receives a matching $100 from our
special donor! Double the impact of your gift

Listening to our community
This project came about because we listened to librarians and to the community-at-large. A 2009 Library Needs Assessment, drawing from interviews and focus groups with hundreds of library users, determined what the community needs most from its library:
- Greater access to Library’s materials for school children because their school libraries have inadequate collections and limited hours.
- More outreach: making books and materials available to seniors and homebound.
- Presentation of story times at community centers and preschools.
- Representation of the library at community events, general publicity of library services.
The book van is ideally suited to addressing these needs.
