The Second Century Club
Libraries provide materials that help children achieve. They offer resources that help busineses prosper. For these reasons libraries are engines of economic growth. The Second Century Club fuels that engine.
The Richmond Public Library stands at the threshold of its second century — a fitting time to consider the vital role that it plays in the economic vitality of our city.
The resources that our public library offers today are the building blocks of Richmond’s prosperity tomorrow. This is more than rhetoric. A recent study of large city libraries revealed that for every $1 spent on its library, the community sees more than $4 in return.
We invite you to become a partner in that investment by joining The Second Century Club, business and community leaders who pledge an annual contribution of $100, $250, $500 or $1000 to the Richmond Public Library for the next five years. Your donations will fund the purchase of books, media, and digital resources that support businesses and foster students’ academic success.
At the end of 2005, the first year of the Second Century Club, total contributions stand at more than $12,000.
Good deeds are their own reward but...
...that's no reason not to recognize those whose deeds also reward others. Therefore,
- Second Century Club donors will be recognized by a plaque in the Library foyer.
- Books purchased through the fund will carry Second Century plates on their inside covers.
- Each year we will acknowledge new donors and list noteworthy acquisitions made possible by their generosity.
